Birth of a monster
I compile software almost everyday.Currently all this compilation takes place on a Pentium III and anybody who has ever compiled code will know that a PIII is a bad choice and esp. in my case which deals with a lot of kernel compiles. So to eliminate all these problems, I've hijacked a monster.A Dell Poweredge Dual CPU with HT, that's 4 virtual processors. The aim is to make a build-monster out of this beauty so that it can handle any compilation task thrown at it. Target 1: Compile the GNOME Desktop Environment People who use GNOME know how _huge_ gnome really is, well this box is going to compile GNOME + Mozilla + OpenOffice.org all at one go and all thanks to GARNOME.Let's see how well this one handles the load. One reason why we need this is because we will be starting development on OO2.org and currently we don't have an OO.org build which actually compiles. Target 2: Create .deb/.rpm packages of the above builds so that Infy Linux users can benefit from this. Ofcourse if any of the packages will help the Debian/Fedora community we will surely comply. My initial aim was to use jhbuild as it's more up-to-date but since CVS access is not possible from within Infy garnome will have to step up and do the job.
